Poison ivy - also recognized as as toxicodendron radicans - is a kind of plant that is thought to be apart of the Anacardiaceae family. Some of us learned about this plant when we were youngsters and were ordered to stay far from it as we can. Those of us who did not listen soon learned about about the rash that it would stimulate and which would cause us to be in pain for weeks.

This plant is not really an ivy - but is instead a woody vine that has the power to develop the content urushiol. This is a type of skin irritant that stimulates the rash to appear on anyone who tries to feel it. This rash will make the person incredibly itchy. It has to be treated with particular creams.

You can easily recognise the poison ivy plant by its common ‘leaves of three’. All of the blades are almond shaped and is the one feature that really distinguishes it from some other plants. The plant will likewise have berries that are a gray-white color and which are eaten by birds during the winter months.

The younger plants will have light green leaves and as they develop they will turn into a dark green. The blades are between 3 to 12 centimeters long and will have a few teeth on the edges of it. Along the vine you will discover that the leaves are grown bundled together.

These plants cannot be discovered developing in desert or arid regions. Instead they are ofttimes growing in the woody regions. This is why they are oftentimes challenging to see because they can meld in well with the plants that surround them.

Individuals find it very difficult to eliminate the poison ivy plant because it can produce both sexually and vegetatively. The vines will thrust out external roots or the plant will only spread from the root crowns. The seeds can be spread by the animals in the area after they have eaten sections of it and then had it come out of their system. This is why they are constantly all over the place.
